Returning with Gifts

How could I give perfection?

Return to the moment before Inception

Before Original Beauty echoed here

And all was too grand to be named

Could I attain words from that sphere

Words that clothe the sound of Heaven

Recalled, adored for ages to come

As Shakespeare or Wordsworth

Or Blake did

Would I enter the state?

It’s not a great ask is it?

To go and touch eternity

Get a glimpse of immortality

Would I learn from the best?

Maybe, yet Blake, Unlearned

Unveiled secrets of one book, alone

Became divinely possessed

His wife holding his trembling hand

As he scribed a magnificence not yet perceived

On reality and Imagination

And God and man and dreams

Every word spoken would be a heartfelt prayer,

every colour, the radiance of golden hour

To breathe the air of inspiration

Then swing from star to star

Think of how that would be

To have Divine vision, feeling all good

Into visibility with ease

In stately surrender

Make the impossible true

Could I catch the feeling

Could I catch the mood?

How does one give perfection that lasts?

Words that sink into hearts

Weep with joy and Heal

Emanate Love in its legion of forms

From wisdom to opulence

To exquisite scenes?

They must have returned to Eden,

found their way somehow

Perhaps an elixir, or a flying carpet.

Did they ask the Cheshire Cat,

or follow the yellow brick road,

meet Beethoven on the path?

Did they discover a thin wall dividing the worlds?

Pressed their ears against it to hear Angelic beings

And Original Beauties speak on the other side

Did they stay home

Rest on their bed at night

To contemplate Perfection

and there you have it,

Opened wide the grander world

Entered freely, welcomed there

Stayed a while to gather what we might need

Returning with gifts that awaken the sleeper in us

Resurrect the Infinite Dream in us

That we might realise the Life we’ve been seeking

That we might know ourselves and be known

When I know myself, would I be known

Would I give something that lasts?
