What I saw in the year of Grace
Beyond dust and heat
Heaven's rendezvous with earth
Holy doors open wide
Awaited invitation arrives
Who I was once, left behind
Rising vision, Inspired by a dream
You left us one city
Where every column whispers wisdom
on how we could live
Fountains issue rebirth
Cobblestone streets walk us to eternity
Longing of pilgrims passed
Passing zealous like Paul
The origins of our yearning defined
Grasping you is earth’s pursuit
To wrap its arms around sunshine
A pale dot can only float
In gold rays of Perfect Hope
You tell us to rise early
Rise above reason as light
And enter states sublime
In the eternal city of grand possibility
Why are days not timeless too?
You leave us wanting more of you
Every piazza impresses us with something true
Let me be conquered by these streets
Streets that teach me sacred ways
While I taste of simple decadence and
See colours of ancient days
Apart from you I am restless and lovesick
Another hour passes Destiny calls
Desires are stirred
By the will of the stars
It is here we become untold Truth
Beauty Absolute,
When flames of Life consume us
In a city that makes us immortal again
Return us to our beloved home
